The East European Film Bulletin, a literary and journalistic project about the cinema of Central and Eastern Europe, is preparing a special issue on Romanian cinema. The organizers invite you to participate in the open call dedicated to language as a linguistic and visual tool for making films. Proposals are accepted until June 1st.

The special issue will unite the themes of language representation as a means of communication on the screen and its analysis from a linguistic point of view. Accept are essays on Romanian films, directors, and genres, relevant to, but not limited to, the following topics: the use of irony and metaphors to bypass the censorship of the communist era, visual language techniques used in documentaries to undermine official rhetoric and propaganda, the grammar of the visual language of the Romanian new wave and its transformation in recent years, and others.

Please send a short article description (up to 250 words) to editors@eefb.org.
