International ceramics experts from the Islamic world will present research on the development of this art form, from archaeological finds to contemporary practice. The event will take place online on the Victoria and Albert Museum platform from July 19th to 23rd. Pre-registration is required.
Several sessions are planned at the conference: there will be discussions of important archaeological finds, changes in the technology and technique of ceramics production, the influence of trade across the Mediterranean, the Indian Ocean, and the Silk Road and contacts with Europe on the development of art, continuity and change in the 19th century, and contemporary artistic practices and craft traditions. Discussions will cover the regions of West Asia and North Africa, Central Asia, South and Southeast Asia, Africa, and Europe. A detailed schedule of panels is available here.
Conference materials will be available to participants two weeks before and after the event. The conference will open on July 19th, and lectures will be held in real time from July 20th to 23rd.
