Those applying for a fellowship in arts will be able to pursue a postdoctoral degree in art history or visual studies. The fellows will work at the Department of Geopolitics and the Arts of Africa of the National Research Foundation SARChI, Rhodes University in Makhanda, South Africa. Applications are accepted until August 31st.
Aims of the program: to achieve high research results in the field of visual and performing arts, to encourage exchange and cooperation, and to develop academic potential and cooperation between scientists and artists in the African continent and the “global South.” Research should be related to at least one of the topics: “Art, Activism and Social Justice”, “Environments and Materialities”, “The Rising South: Reorienting Art’s Futures”, or "Ways of Practicing and Being as Ways of Knowing."
Applications are accepted from candidates who have received or have completed a PhD within the past five years. Program participants undertake to publish at least two research-based articles in scientific journals. The organizers will provide accommodation in Makhanda for the entire duration of the scholarship (2021–2025). Documents and questions are accepted at c.mostert@ru.ac.za.
