The Department of Historical and Cultural Studies at the University of Toronto at Scarborough is seeking an associate professor in the history of late antiquity and early Islam. Resumes are accepted until November 30th and the starting date for the position is planned for July 1st, 2021.
The ideal candidate should have a PhD in Middle Eastern studies, history, religion, arts, archeology, or another related discipline; they should be able to conduct qualitative research and use modern conceptual and methodological practices in teaching. Preference will be given to specialists in the history of religion and inter-ethnic relations, and to those with experience working with topics related to race, ethnicity, and identity. Knowledge and the use of postcolonial or decolonial approaches are also important. Applicants must be prepared to teach one required course and one additional Bachelor's program.
