Art Jameel has launched a Curatorial Open Call for exhibition proposals to be developed for the first-floor gallery of Hayy Arts at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah. The institution is interested in proposals that engage with the geography and history of the location, with a particular focus on themes related to connections in and around the Red Sea, including connected geographies (Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Sudan, Eritrea, Djibouti, Palestine, and Jordan), histories, ecologies, and the movement of people and ideas. The exhibition will take place in May 2024.
The awarded curator will work with the Art Jameel team, who will provide guidance for the exhibition's development, production, design, logistics, and installation.
The open call privileges early-career curators, defined as those with little or no previous institutional curatorial projects, who are not currently employed as a curator in a major arts institution/museum, or who are 3-5 years post-graduate. Collectives are also welcome to apply.
Applicants must be able to travel to Jeddah for several visits to conduct research, work with the team, and install and uninstall the exhibition. The curators’ own artistic works cannot be included in the exhibition.
