Helsinki International Artist Programme (HIAP), as part of their Connecting Points Programme, has announced an open call for a Trans-Siberian railway trip. The itinerary will be developed by participants but the basic trajectory will be east from Helsinki, moving through Russia, China, and ending in Japan. The application is open to those interested in questions related to travelling, specifically the future of land-based long distance train travel, but more generally anyone active in the field of art, research, and with an interest in ecological and environmental questions can apply.

Participants will have travel, accommodation, and visa costs covered by the Finnish Cultural Foundation. There will be assistance with logistics, translation, and research. As part of the Connecting Points program, the trip works at “strengthening the collegial and curatorial activity in the artistic and cultural realm in/within Finland and in Russia and is committed to thinking about the role of travel within artistic and cultural activities.”

The deadline is August 31. More information is available at hiap.fi.
