The Sao Joao Residence is seeking up to 11 candidates to participate in the fifth SOMSOCOSMOS sonic residence, which will take place from March 10th to March 25th, 2024. This residency offers facilities for sound/music creation and recording, as well as opportunities for collaboration and networking among musicians and other creative individuals. Additionally, residents are encouraged to fully immerse themselves in the beautiful natural environment surrounding the residence. This may involve expeditions to record sounds, outdoor practices, workshops, performances, installations, and more.
Applications are open to anyone interested in collaborating with other professionals whose work is influenced by sound. This includes musicians, sound artists, writers, activists, therapists, filmmakers, scientists, dancers, and representatives of other creative and socially impactful professions. We believe that sharing enriches the artistic practice, so activities such as improvisations, readings, listening sessions, workshops, and collective discussions may be part of the program.
During the residency, participants will have dedicated time to work on their personal projects while also participating in collective activities. Together, they will create a collective calendar to propose communal activities and discussions.
Residents are required to pay a fee of 3000 Brazilian dollars for the 15-day duration (approximately 600 US dollars / 559 euros). The fee does not cover transportation to the residence but includes accommodation at a historic house (2-4 people per room), meals, access to workspaces (studio, office, and ateliers), as well as equipment (P.A., instruments, projector, etc.). Residents will also have access to a small recording studio and the support of a team of sound engineers. For accepted residents seeking funding, the residence can provide invitation letters.
