The upcoming exhibition Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices at ACP–Palazzo Franchetti in Venice, coinciding with the 60th International Art Exhibition at the Venice Biennale, is a unique opportunity to explore the works of over 40 filmmakers and video artists from the West Asia, Africa, and Southeast Asia.
The featured works provide a journey through contemporary experiences of community life, memory, transnational crossings, and exile. The exhibition spans an array of genres, including fiction, documentary, animation, and memoir, often blending invented narrative with fact, modernity with tradition, and spirituality with postcolonial sensibilities. It's a showcase of how cinema is not just a reflection of political changes but an active participant in them.
The exhibition expands across ten galleries, each dedicated to certain themes like deserts, ruins, women's voices, borders, and exile. This thematic approach creates a narrative thread that links the artworks and provides a rich contextual backdrop.
Your Ghosts Are Mine: Expanded Cinemas, Amplified Voices is curated by Matthieu Orléan in collaboration with Majid Al-Remaihi and Virgile Alexandre. The exhibition design, created by the architectural and spatial designers Cookies (Federico Martelli and Clément Périssé), promises an immersive experience that aligns with the curatorial themes, engaging with the architecture of the palazzo.
The exhibition is a collaboration between Qatar Museums, Doha Film Institute, Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art, and the future Art Mill Museum, and will be on display at ACP–Palazzo Franchetti from April 19th to November 24th 2024.
