Seoul National University Hosts Two Day Music Camp

Events will take place February 18th and 19th over Zoom

The Department of Korean Music at SNU (Seoul National University) will host a two day music camp that features a variety of talks and a performance, all taking place online via Zoom on February 18th and 19th. Topics include a dialogue between Korean traditional musicians at Seoul National University and composers at Western Sydney University, a class on how to create your own sanjo (a style of traditional Korean music that literally translates to scattered melodies), an analysis of the melody and characteristics of Korean folk songs through tori (regional scales), and a hands on workshop involving physical items found at home for experimenting with sounds and tone.

The Department of Korean Music was founded in 1959 with the purpose to educate talented students in the field of Korean traditional music. The SNU Department of Korean Music has developed and expanded Korean traditional music. They encourage the study and research of traditional music as well as the development of new genres based on a traditional foundation.

To attend the music camp, you must register for individual sessions through the website.
