Art of the Kingdom at the Saudi Arabia Museum of Contemporary Art at Jax

From February 24th through May 25th. Diriyah, Saudi Arabia

The first international traveling exhibition of Saudi contemporary art showcases leading artists from the Kingdom, offering global audiences deeper insight into Saudi Arabia's dynamic artistic landscape.

Curated by Diana Wechsler under the theme "Poetic Illuminations," this groundbreaking exhibition brings together 17 Saudi artists across generations and mediums. Through paintings, installations, and video pieces, they explore Saudi Arabia's history, memory, and cultural traditions. The exhibition provides audiences with an intimate glimpse into Saudi Arabia's rich cultural narratives and artistic innovations.

"Art has the power to unite people and cultures, and Art of the Kingdom exemplifies this mission," said Mona Khazindar, Advisor to Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Culture.

Curator Diana Wechsler approaches the exhibition through two fundamental questions: "Is it possible to approach a culture through contemporary art? How do the visual arts contribute to reconfiguring the narratives we construct about society, memory, the past, and the present?"

Two core themes emerge from the exhibition: the desert as a metaphor for space, infinity, and life; and the evolution of a distinctive visual culture shaped by diverse historical influences.

Participating artists: Ayman Yossri Daydban; Ahmed Mater; Emy Kat (Mohamed Alkhatib); Ayman Zedani; Shadia Alem; Nasser Al Salem; Manal Al Dowayan; Lina Gazzaz; Muhannad Shono; Sarah Brahim; Daniah Alsaleh; Faisal Samra; Filwa Nazer; Moath Alofi; Ahaad Alamoudi; Sarah Abuabdallah and Ghada Al Hassan.
