Ubani Open Call: Nonuments of Tbilisi

Tbilisi, Georgia. Deadline: June 20th

Ubani, in collaboration with the Nonument Group, announces an open call for participation in a research project, Nonuments of Tbilisi. The project will be carried out in two phases, starting with research trips to selected Nonuments, led by Martin Bricelj Baraga, a co-founder of the Nonument Group. In one-day sightseeing around Tbilisi, Baraga will present the idea of Nonuments, the methodology of Nonument Group, and an in situ exhibition of previous Nonuments from Central Europe. This initiative will continue in September with a workshop on these selected Nonuments (and some others that we will decide on collectively). The project aims to explore “Nonuments” twentieth-century architecture, monuments, public spaces, and infrastructural projects that have undergone a shift in symbolic meaning due to political and social changes.

Professionals from the fields of architecture, art, public space, journalism, as well as curious individuals and urban explorers, are welcome to apply.

The initiative is part of the ongoing efforts of the Nonument Group, a multidisciplinary artist collective, and Martin Bricelj Baraga, an award-winning artist and curator known for creating artworks in diverse public spaces and unusual architectural contexts. The project is supported by the Museum of Transitory Art, Ljubljana, and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia.
