The 2025 PARSE Conference: Some Like it Hot

Deadline: March 31st

From mycelium to politicians—who actually likes it hot? What are the potential transformations triggered by friction, fever, sweat? How do conductors of heat (extremities, lightning rods, spices) and by-products of heat (nightmares, chaos, unruliness) function? How does sonic and somatic energy express urgency? What are the smokescreens and speakeasies of our current times?

In response to rising global temperatures and ecological challenges, the 2025 PARSE conference “Some Like it Hot” explores the intersection of art, climate crisis, and social justice. Building on previous themes of Violence (2021) and Powers of Love (2023), PARSE examines how artistic research can contribute to meaningful action and new forms of consciousness.

The conference invites emerging researchers, independents, and collaborators to submit proposals addressing heat from various perspectives—from ecological impacts to social transformations. Artistic, curatorial, and performative work-in-progress propositions are particularly welcomed.

The conference will take place on November 12th through 14th in Gothenburg, Sweden with a parallel online program.
