Hive Mind is a vinyl led record label specializing in vintage and contemporary sounds from around the globe. In a special mix for EastEast Radio, founder Marc Teare introduces some of the latest sounds coming out of the MENA region, running the gamut from the ambient modular synthesis of Bana Haffar, electro-dub from the burgeoning Tunisian club scene, mysterious hardcore punk from Tangier, and maqam blended jazz from trumpeter Amir ElSaffar. The mix is a tour de force, illustrating the sheer depth and diversity of musical genres, hybridity, and experimentation the region has to offer. The sonic journey closes out with an excerpt from the label’s newest release, a track from Obay Alsharani’s Sandbox.
