Funded Residency at the Farm Margaret River

Margaret River, Western Australia. Deadline: June 2nd

Elaine Clocherty (2017) Acknowledgement

The Farm Margaret River, located in Western Australia's South West region, is announcing an open call for their funded residency program. This unique program is set within an ecologically significant landscape, which has been home to the Wardandi people, a cultural group of the Noongar nation, for tens of thousands of years. The Farm is both a working rural property and a home to artist studios—a place to make, explore, examine, and restore.

The residency program offers local and global artists the opportunity to produce and share new works responding to the unique environment of The Farm, which consists of several studios, agricultural farming land, and natural bushlands. The program is a chance to experience and contribute to ongoing collective learning about the local natural environment through experimental practices, creative inquiry, and visual languages. Artists will have the opportunity to share their work with the local community and are expected to write a reflective piece on their experience and work created during the residency. Any work resulting from the residency or collaborations should represent the artist's time spent at The Farm.

Eligibility for the program includes the following:

— Applicants must be at least 18-years-old
— A good level of written and spoken English is required
— Applicants must be emerging or professional practicing visual artists and be recognized as such by their peers
— It is strongly advised that applicants hold their own Australian or international driver's license, as alternative transport options in the region are limited

In addition to accommodation in self-contained artist studios, the successful artist or group will receive a grant of $7,500 (ex. GST) to cover all out-of-pocket expenses. The eight-week residency will take place between February and October 2025. The exact timing of the residency will be determined between the Funded Residency recipient and The Farm.
