The Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media is inviting applications for eight three-month residencies in 2025 and 2026 at the Westwerk Artists’ Center in Hamburg.
The residency is a residential and work grant that requires the artist to live and work at Westwerk, facilitating both work on an artistic project and networking with the Hamburg cultural scene. Westwerk is centrally located in inner-city Hamburg, in a relatively large complex of buildings on Fleetinsel that houses studios, galleries, and a small theater.
The residency is open to professional international artists residing outside Germany, from the fields of visual arts, photography, film and multimedia, and music in combination with visual arts, media, or film. Applicants should have an interest in the Hamburg cultural scene and a desire to network culturally in Hamburg. This residency is not for curators.
Several periods are available between January 1st, 2025, and December 31st, 2026.
The residency provides:
— Rent-free provision of the 68 m² residency flat (1 large room with a separate, simply furnished living/working area, kitchen, and shared bathroom) with WiFi
— An expense allowance of 900 EUR per month per artist in residence
— Travel expenses for one return journey
A one-off subsidy of 500 EUR per residency towards the costs of running and organizing a final presentation. Grants are intended for one person. You can find more information about the residency on the website of the Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media.
