Berliner Künstlerprogramm des DAAD

DAAD is a German scholarship program aimed at supporting and encouraging cultural exchange in Europe and beyond. Every year, around twenty writers, filmmakers, and musicians of all ages get the opportunity to live and work in Berlin for twelve months. Applications are accepted until December 1st.

DAAD helps authors to implement and promote their creative projects both in Berlin and throughout Germany. The candidates of the program will interact with the professionals of the local art scene and receive needed recommendations and advice on future development. The scholarship includes a monthly payment covering daily expenses, travel, rent, health insurance, and German lessons. In addition, the participants will be provided with a studio space. For writers and musicians, the residence lasts for one year and  for directors it lasts six months. Susan Sontag, John Cage, Margaret Atwood, Asghar Farhadi, and others have participated in this program over the years.

To apply, you need to fill out a form on the website and send an application form and portfolio with examples of work to residency.berlin@daad.de.
