As part of the Our Many Europes Program, the Museum of Contemporary Art Antwerp and Van Abbemuseum, Eindhoven, have announced a research fellowship for an artist, curator, writer, or thinker. The research grant will allow for a period of research for up to twelve months, leading to two projects presented by M HKA and Van Abbemuseum respectively in 2021: Rewinding Internationalism: The 1990s and Today (Van Abbemuseum) and Eurasia: A Landscape of Mutability (M HKA). Both exhibitions will take place within the context of the four-year program Our Many Europes, by the museum confederation L’Internationale.

For potential fellows, the program is looking for a “speculative, ambitious research project that can speak across and between the frameworks of the two exhibitions.” Researchers are encouraged to look to the archives, collections, or local context of M HKA and the Van Abbemuseum as starting points for the research. Research projects should offer “dialogical perspectives to analyse, question, and form methodologies” in order to look further into the following topics: internationalism, transnationalism, globalisation, microhistories, transhistoricalism, multipolarity, mutability, and cultural networks of exchange.

The grant consists of a €10,000 research fee plus a maximum of a €5,000 production budget. Limited presentation budgets will be discussed separately with M HKA and the Van Abbemuseum. Research proposals should identify and account for potential restrictions to the project caused by COVID-19. To apply, one must submit a PDF, which includes a research outline and a biography.

Proposals should be sent to researchfellowship@vanabbe.nl by December 6th, 2020.
