The General Idea Fellowship at the National Gallery of Canada supports advanced contemporary art research, emphasizing the use of the Gallery's collections, such as the Art Metropole Collection, the General Idea fonds, the AA Bronson collection, and related materials. The research can relate to any aspect of contemporary art, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, printmaking, artist’s books and multiples, video, installation, and other media.
The fellowship welcomes art historians, curators, critics, conservators, graduate students, independent researchers, and professionals in the visual arts, museology, humanities, and social sciences. International applicants are also eligible. All qualified candidates are invited to apply, including Indigenous peoples, women, people of all sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, racialized people, and people with disabilities.
Each award is capped at $15,000 for a one-year term starting May 31, 2024.
