2024 marks the 700th anniversary of Marco Polo, a distinguished Venetian who played a significant role in connecting East and West. The CIFRA + Art Night Venezia Open Call, “Marco Polo (Re)imagined,” commemorates this anniversary and encourages artists to explore our shared world, cultural, and lifestyle diversity, and the relevance of travel today.
Artists can submit works that explore Marco Polo’s legacy or personality, or center around the themes of travels and expeditions, both real and imaginary. The open call aims to discover works that re-examine the role of travel in modern society. The works should be existing projects by artists working with new media and can be of any length, from 60 seconds to 60 minutes, in a horizontal screen-oriented format.
The CIFRA Award will include three nominations:
— Bridging East and West, North and South
— New Ways of Seeing
— (Re)thinking the Media
Three awards are up for grabs, each carrying a €1500 prize. Shortlisted works will be presented at the Art Night Venezia event on June 22nd, and finalists will be featured on the CIFRA Main Page.
Applicants can apply by creating a CIFRA account, completing their profile, and uploading the artwork with a description. You can find application form as well as more information about the open-call on the CIFRA's website.
