University of Vienna’s “Ecology of the Ottoman Empire” Talks

The university invites researchers to participate in a seminar on “Environmental Histories of the Ottoman and post-Ottoman World. The Anthropocene: From Empire to Nation-States.” The event, dedicated to the history of the environment during and after the Ottoman Empire, will take place from 16th to 18th of September 2021. Applications are accepted until January 1st, 2021.

The seminar, organized by the Department of Near Eastern Studies, will bring together Ottoman experts whose research interests include the environmental agenda and anthropocene issues. The program provides financial support for speakers; priority will be given to graduate students, early-career researchers, and scientists outside the European Union. The workshop language is English.

You can send an abstract of the work of no more than 300 words and submit an application through the form on the event’s website. Selected articles will also be published in a special issue of the peer-reviewed journal.
